Basics Of Combat


Here's a video showing a battle between the player and some Wallabies. Includes discussion on choosing weapons and tactics, analysing the battle and sizing up opponents.

I've also added the ability to recruit mercenaries or followers in the midgame for larger gang battles. It integrates seamlessly with the existing actions/tags/inventory system and I'm glad I took the time to build a robust system, even though it's taken a while. 


You'll need to heal your minions when they get injured in battle. Mercs will also demand gold payment upfront while followers need to be fed, or they will desert you. It won't be a case of getting as many minions as possible since there is a maintenance cost to support them.


Each of your friends have their own inventories and body part slots. At the start of each battle, they will take items from your inventory and use them in battle according to weapon availability and their individual preferences.

Your opponents start with a randomised weapon pool and take turns picking equipment from that pool. You might encounter a Possum gang with only shivs as weapons, or a gang where one has a pistol and the rest are using their teeth. Late game, you will even encounter large mixed gangs and have to recruit/support enough mercs/followers to take them on.
